- Fever >38°C (>100.5°F).
- Abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting. (Slight tenderness over the bladder area is not an exclusion.)
- Diabetes.
- Pregnancy.
- Immunosuppression.
- Catheterization or other urologic procedure in the last two weeks.
- Discharge from a hospital or nursing home in the last two weeks.
- Treatment for a urinary tract infection (UTI) in the last two weeks.
- Symptoms present
> seven days.
- Symptoms of vaginitis: vaginal discharge, vaginal irritation.
- Recent or persistent urinary stone disease.
- Chronic renal or urologic abnormalities other than stress incontinence.
- Gross hematuria in women aged >50.
