- Network founded: May 1995 by Louis D. Wright Jr., MD.
- Business slogan: "PSA: The Business Solution for Pathology."
- Mission: To support the independent pathology practice by providing comrehensive business solutions.
- Initial
focus: To link and support pathology practices in local
communities so they can compete with the larger, more capitalized
commercial labs and to negotiate statewide carve-outs in the managed
care arena and share services.
- Got
its start: Sold shares of ownership to pathology practices
until 2000 to raise startup capital. Today 80 percent of PSA's
associated practices have an equity position of varying degrees
in the company.
- Change
in focus in 1999: From emphasis on regional integration
and competing for statewide managed care contracts to providing
business solutions for pathology practices.
- Current
size: 70 pathology practices in 15 states and business
alliances with 29 vendors.
- Annual
gross revenues in startup year: $700,000.
