April 2018—Roche launched the Cobas Plasma Separation Card, a sample collection device for HIV plasma viral load testing. By requiring only a small amount of a patient’s blood from a fingertip, this card simplifies blood collection and sample transportation, as compared with traditional plasma-based testing. The card allows for quantitative testing of patients with HIV living in remote areas, including areas of extreme heat and humidity, while meeting World Health Organization requirements for determining HIV viral load prior to setting treatment.
The Cobas Plasma Separation Card is available in countries accepting the CE mark and is for use with the Cobas AmpliPrep/Cobas TaqMan HIV-1 and Cobas 6800/8800 HIV-1 Tests.
