Bruker launches products for MALDI Biotyper at ECCMID 2021

July 12, 2021—Bruker launched, at the 31st European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, products and methods for its MALDI Biotyper platform. ECCMID is taking place online July 9–12.

The MBT Lipid Xtract Kit, for research use only, facilitates sample preparation for analysis of microbial lipids, enabling fast resistance detection based on MALDI-TOF analysis of lipid A modifications, on the company’s MALDI Biotyper Sirius using negative ion mode.

The company also introduced the MBT Fast Shuttle IVD, and for research use only. It is a benchtop tool to standardize and optimize drying conditions for faster matrix crystallization and quicker drying of other droplet assays for sample preparation. The MBT Mycobacteria kit, also new, is a preparation kit for mycobacteria after culture that allows fast sample preparation and safe inactivation by avoiding the need to boil mycobacteria samples, the company says. It is used in combination with the MBT Mycobacteria Library and software module.

Other product enhancements include the expansion of the MALDI Biotyper reference libraries, which now cover more than 4,000 species or species groups, and the IR Biotyper 3.1 software, which connects the IR Biotyper for strain typing for hospital hygiene management with the MALDI Biotyper. The IR Biotyper products are not for use in clinical diagnostics procedures.
