It is designed for quantification of human erythroferrone in serum and does not contain mercaptoethanol or azide- or mercury-based preservatives. Erythroferrone is a hormone produced by erythroblasts in the bone marrow in response to erythropoietin. ERFE is involved in hepcidin regulation in inherited iron loading anemias, such as beta-thalassemia, and has potential as a clinical marker for assessing erythropoiesis in patients with blood disorders.
