June 22, 2022—The CAP has worked with the American Medical Association CPT Editorial Panel to add 13 new digital pathology add-on codes. The new digital pathology category three CPT codes will be used to report additional clinical staff work and service requirements associated with digitizing glass microscope slides for primary diagnosis. The AMA CPT will also add a new heading in the category three section and guidelines to define digital pathology digitization procedures. The new codes will be published on July 1 and effective Jan. 1, 2023.
