June 24, 2024—Cone Health and Risant Health have signed a definitive agreement under which Cone Health will become part of Risant Health, pending regulatory approvals.
Cone Health is a nonprofit health care network that serves more than half a million people in the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina and has more than 13,000 employees, 700 physicians, and 1,800 physician partners. It will maintain its brand, name, and mission as well as its board, CEO, and leadership team. Cone Health customers will see the same doctors, nurses, and staff in the same locations as they do now. “We do not anticipate changes in the types of care we provide as a result of becoming part of Risant Health,” said Mary Jo Cagle, MD, Cone Health president and CEO.
Headquartered in Washington, DC, Risant is a nonprofit, charitable organization created by Kaiser Foundation Hospitals in 2023. Its goal is to accelerate the adoption of value-based care in diverse, multipayer, multiprovider, community-based health system environments and improve the health of people in communities nationwide. Cone Health will be the second health system to become part of Risant after Geisinger, which was acquired in March.
