November 2020—ARUP Laboratories’ formula for ARUP Transport Media is now available to other laboratories. The formula is provided at the end of an article about an ARUP and University of Utah Health study in which the transport media was used for specimen collection (Hanson KE, et al. J Clin Microbiol. The lab validated its transport media for use with more than 50 ARUP tests for infectious diseases. It is manufacturing its own specimen collection kits using the transport media and is distributing the kits to its hospital and health system clients nationwide.
“ARUP’s version of viral transport media works, and it works very well,” Mark Astill, MS, director of research and development at ARUP, said in a press release. “We are sharing the formula for ARUP Transport Media as part of our commitment as a nonprofit enterprise of the U of U to continuously improve the practice of laboratory medicine and ensure the best patient care.”
