Sept. 29, 2022—Illumina today announced the launch of the NovaSeq X series—NovaSeq X and NovaSeq X Plus—production-scale sequencers, which aim to enable faster, more powerful, and more sustainable sequencing.
Studies can be scaled with three flow cell types and up to 16 Tb output per run on the dual flow cell NovaSeq X Plus system or up to 8 Tb on the single flow cell NovaSeq X system. Ultra-high-density flow cells and ultra-high-resolution optics enable output of up to 26 billion single reads per flow cell. The series is powered by XLEAP-SBS, a new sequencing by synthesis chemistry engineered for greater speed and accuracy. The Dragen Bio-IT with ORA compression, available onboard or in the cloud, provides genomic data analysis.
“With brand new chemistry and underlying hardware and software, along with the ability to combine genomics innovations on a single platform, NovaSeq X sets a new standard in sequencing technology, while enabling discoveries and patient outcomes we never thought possible,” Alex Aravanis, Illumina’s chief technology officer, said in a press statement.
The company says NovaSeq X features a 90 percent reduction in packaging waste and weight and a 50 percent reduction in plastic use compared with NovaSeq 6000. Reagents can be shipped in ambient temperature, eliminating the need for dry ice.
NovaSeq X series sequencers are for research use only.
