UPMC develops platform to accelerate AI innovation
April 2025—UPMC Enterprises has introduced Ahavi, a real-world data platform on which clinical researchers, data scientists, and developers of artificial intelligence can validate AI solutions before the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center deploys them.
The platform provides de-identified real-world health care data from more than 80 University of Pittsburgh Medical Center sources. Comprehensive structured and unstructured data have been sourced from approximately 5 million patients across 24 hospitals in order to train and refine AI models and develop predictive analytics and clinical decision-making tools.
“The platform enables the creation of curated data sets that accelerate research, clinical trial design, and AI development, and [it] offers primary source-verifiable data along with industry-leading analytical tools,” according to a press release from UPMC Enterprises.
The entity is making the secure, scalable analytics platform available to a range of health care partners, including hospital systems, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, AI developers, and academic researchers.
“By combining Ahavi’s analytical power with our technical expertise, we can identify and validate the best opportunities—before they reach the bedside and without disrupting UPMC’s broader operations,” said Jeff Jones, senior vice president of product development at UPMC Enterprises, in the press announcement.
Citizen Care Health offering POC connectivity platform
Citizen Care Health Solutions has launched Citizen Care Connect, an artificial intelligence-powered workflow solution that connects point-of-care testing devices to electronic health record systems to transmit patient test results and other information.
The cloud-based middleware transfers patient orders and test results in real time and can be used to manage user certifications and quality control. The solution integrates with wired, wireless, and Bluetooth analyzers.
“Our platform delivers flexibility, efficiency, and seamless integration with any medical device or EMR system,” said Carl DeMarco, CEO and chairman of Citizen Care Health Solutions, in a press release.
CSS providing AI analysis of lab reports to patients
Computer Service and Support recently launched interpretmyresults.com, a website on which patients can upload their lab reports for analysis via artificial intelligence.
Users can upload their lab reports as a PDF file or using specific image file formats. “The advanced artificial intelligence then analyzes the test results and delivers a detailed interpretation, including possible diagnoses, alternative explanations, and key questions to discuss with a health care provider,” according to a press release from CSS.

Meditech releases outreach portal for laboratory clients
Meditech has introduced its Web-based Expanse Outreach portal to help its client hospitals develop new service lines and extend their laboratory services to nonhospital-affiliated organizations.
The portal, which is integrated into the Meditech Expanse electronic health record system workflow, allows such organizations as physician offices, nursing homes, and urgent care centers to place lab orders electronically, view results in real time, and generate management and statistical reports. It also can be used to communicate customer service inquiries and issues and manage supply orders between a hospital and its laboratory clients.
Lab results transmitted via the portal are integrated into the patient’s record in Expanse to support continuity of care if the patient is later seen at the hospital.
