American Board of Pathology cosponsors clinical informatics certification

The American Board of Medical Specialties will administer its first examination for certification in clinical informatics next month. The certificate is jointly sponsored by the American Board of Pathology and American Board of Preventive Medicine.

To qualify for the initial certification exam, for which the deadline has passed, applicants had to meet experience-related criteria, including being a licensed physician certified by an ABMS member board and devoting the equivalent of three years to the practice of clinical informatics during the five years prior to applying for the exam, or have completed an acceptable fellowship program of a predetermined duration.

The American Board of Medical Specialties includes 24 medical boards and oversees physician certification in more than 150 specialties and subspecialties.

Information about future certification exams is available on the American Board of Pathology Web site, www.abpath.org, or ABMS Web site, www.abms.org.
