Oct. 21, 2024—Qiagen published a white paper, titled “NIH Study Finds HGMD Professional Demonstrates a 126% Higher Precision Score than AI-derived Databases,” that discusses expert curation tools that help identify relevant literature for variant classification and the findings of a study conducted by investigators at the National Human Genome Research Institute. Wermers, et al. (Genet Med. 2024;26[4]:101083) evaluated the utility of four commonly used literature mining tools—HGMD Professional, Genomenon Mastermind, ClinVar, and LitVar2—and found that HGMD Professional outperformed Genomenon Mastermind in terms of precision, with 95 percent of all publications retrieved showing direct relevance to American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics/Association for Molecular Pathology/ClinGen classification criteria.
