April 2020—Sylvia L. Asa, MD, PhD, consultant in endocrine pathology, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and University Health Network Toronto, and professor of pathology, Case Western Reserve University, served as an editor of two recently published books related to pathology and is a coauthor of the first book in series five of the AFIP Atlas of Tumor and Non-Tumor Pathology series. Dr. Asa showcased these books at this year’s USCAP meeting in Los Angeles.
Art Gallery of Pathology (ARP Press), created by Tim-Rasmus Kiehl, MD, and edited by Dr. Asa, explores the use of human pathology samples as they are used to create art. Dr. Kiehl worked as a neuropathologist at University Health Network in Toronto.
AFIP Atlas of Tumor and Non-Tumor Pathology, Series 5: Tumors of the Pituitary Gland (ARP Press), coauthored by Dr. Asa and Arie Perry, MD, builds on the work presented in the previous fascicles of the third and fourth series and addresses modern techniques and their application to treatment of pituitary neoplasms but retains the detailed foundation of morphology, according to the publisher.
Also edited by Dr. Asa is Survival Guide to Endocrine Pathology (IP Press). “This book will be of value to pathology residents and fellows but also to practicing pathologists who see endocrine cases,” Dr. Asa said in a recent interview with CAP TODAY. “It is a handy reference to have at your workstation when dealing with cases in your day-to-day routine regardless of whether you practice in a general or specialized area. There is not really anything else like this book.” Read the full interview with Dr. Asa in CAP TODAY Recommends, online at www.captodayonline.com/58635-2.
