April 29, 2024—Leica Biosystems announced that its flagship digital pathology slide scanner, the Aperio GT 450 DX, has received FDA 510(k) clearance. The scanner offers continuous rack loading and can scan a 15 × 15 mm area at 40× magnification in 32 seconds, with a throughput of 81 slides per hour. Fifteen racks of 30 slides can be loaded directly from the company’s HistoCore Spectra CV Coverslipper. The SAM (scanner admin manager) server and software allow users to set up and monitor GT 450 scanners via the network, including dashboard status views, PIN controls, and log-out times.
“There is no better time for laboratories to optimize their workflow with digital,” Naveen Chandra, VP and general manager of digital pathology at Leica Biosystems, said in a press statement. “Today, clinicians are faced with having to do more with less—digital pathology enables them to maintain a high standard of quality with world-class images and a fast turnaround time, for the best patient care possible.”
The instrument is for research use only.
