ARUP launches assay for influenza A (H5) virus

February 2025—ARUP Laboratories has launched an assay for the detection and subtyping of influenza A (H5) virus. The test will aid in the evaluation of people who may have been exposed to highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A virus, also known as H5N1 or bird flu.

Influenza A (H5) Virus by Qualitative NAAT, a laboratory-developed test, has been validated in collaboration with the CDC. ARUP was selected in September 2024 as one of the CDC’s five formal lab partners in the development of a test for avian influenza A (H5).
