September 2019—Thermo Fisher Scientific previewed its Sensititre Aris HiQ AST System at the 71st annual AACC meeting. The benchtop automated reading and incubation system for antimicrobial susceptibility testing uses broth microdilution to provide minimum inhibitory concentration results. It has a capacity of up to 100 Sensititre plates and features an intuitive touchscreen interface, 24/7 access to test information, and batch load and unload capability. The system is currently available in Europe with plans to launch in the United States subject to FDA clearance.

The company also launched at AACC its SmartPlate technology for prepared culture media products. Compatible with all automated specimen processors, the SmartPlate design brings together the company’s Oxoid and Remel prepared culture media with an enhanced universal plate format for high-throughput isolation, identification, differentiation, and screening of samples. Its design aims to reduce the resin materials used to manufacture each plate as well as minimize laboratory waste.
