Wednesday, July 15, 2026, 1:00-2:00 PM ET
Hear an expert discuss how to integrate Kappa and Lambda in situ hybridization testing into your standard hematopathology workflow to accurately assess B-cell and plasma cell clonality. You will also gain the skills to recognize testing pitfalls in challenging reactive versus neoplastic proliferations and apply ancillary tools to resolve complex cases.

Webinar presenter Xiaojun Wu, MD, PhD, Assistant professor, Director of Hematopathology Section at NCR of Johns Hopkins Medicine Department of Pathology, SOM at Johns Hopkins University

Tuesday, July 21, 2026, 11:00-11:30 AM CT

Learning Objectives:
  • Explain how transparency and manufacturer partnerships improve quality, consistency, and decision-making confidence in specimen management.
  • Evaluate blood collection tubes beyond cost and commodity assumptions, incorporating clinical impact and risk into decision-making.
  • Assess the potential risk points when using a blood collection device that has not been cleared for a specific purpose.

Roundtable presenters Nick Fingland, PhD, PMP, Senior Director, R&D Operations and Science, BD, and Chris Farnsworth, PhD, D(ABCC), Section Head of Clinical Chemistry, Professor of Pathology and Immunology, Washington University School of Medicine.

August 2025

Put It on the Board

August 2025—In a position statement released in July, the CAP urged policymakers to consider scientific and logistical evidence and to protect the integrity and safety of the national blood supply. The statement was issued in response to legislation proposed in several states that would require blood product labeling based on donor vaccination status or mandate hospitals and blood collectors to honor requests for directed and autologous donations. Misinformation surrounding COVID-19 and mRNA vaccines has led to a growing number of patient requests for blood transfusions exclusively from unvaccinated donors.

Systemic Mastocytosis: Overview of Disease and Diagnosis for Pathologists

Webinar presenter Sheeja Pullarkat, MD, on behalf of Blueprint Medicines, Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Director of Hematopathology Fellowship Program, Hematopathology and Hematology, UCLA Health, discusses Systemic Mastocytosis (SM), SM evaluation and diagnostic work-up, and technical challenges and best practices for optimizing testing. Moderated by Bob McGonnagle, Publisher, CAP TODAY. This on-demand webinar originally broadcast June 2, 2022.

Community-based rapid NGS offers considerable advantages in clinical cancer care

Webinar presenter Brandon Sheffield, MD, Anatomic and Molecular Pathologist, Department of Laboratory Medicine, William Osler Health System, discusses William Osler Health System’s experience with implementing next-generation sequencing (NGS) in routine oncology biomarker testing. In their pilot study, 578 pan-cancer solid tumor samples underwent genomic profiling. All testing was performed by one group of technologists within the same division of the laboratory, achieving a median turnaround time (TAT) of 3 business days. Dr. Sheffield will elaborate on the importance of timely availability of biomarker results for optimal cancer care, demostrate the feasibility of such TATs in community-based hospitals using fast and automated NGS, and describe the novel approach of integrating NGS with routine immunohistochemistry. Moderated by Bob McGonnagle, Publisher, CAP TODAY. This on-demand webinar originally broadcast August 3, 2022.

Methylation Analysis: A new approach to sarcoma classification

Webinar presenters Andreas von Deimling, MD, Department of Neuropathology, Institute of Pathology, University Heidelberg, and Clinical Cooperation Unit Neuropathology, German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), and Christian Kölsche, MD, Department of General Pathology, Institute of Pathology, University Hospital Heidelberg, discuss sarcoma classification by DNA methylation profiling, principles of methylation-based tumor classification, approaches to sarcomas with methylation analysis, and practical examples and outlook of accessing the tool. Moderated by: Bob McGonnagle, Publisher, CAP TODAY. This on-demand webinar originally broadcast July 20, 2022.
