Genomic Health, Epic Sciences collaboration, 9/16

September 2016—Genomic Health and Epic Sciences announced an exclusive agreement to commercialize Epic Sciences’ novel AR-V7 liquid biopsy test in the U.S. through Genomic Health’s commercial channel. The blood-based test detects the V7 variant of the androgen receptor protein in the nucleus of circulating tumor cells—information that can help guide treatment selection in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.

CE mark for herpes virus test, 9/16

September 2016—SpeeDx received CE-IVD marking for its PlexPCR HSV-1&2, VZV multiplex qPCR kit. The multiplex molecular diagnostic test offers a single-well solution to cover the detection and differentiation of three herpes viruses (HSV-1, HSV-2, VZV) in addition to an internal control.

Prefilled specimen jars, 9/16

September 2016—Leica Biosystems added four sizes of Surgipath AffirmSeal jars. The new sizes, 40 mL, 60 mL, 90 mL, and 120 mL, are offered in multiple packaging configurations. Prefilled with 10 percent neutral buffered formalin, the jars are specifically designed for safe collection and transport of various sized specimens.

September 2016—The Oncomine Lung Cell-Free DNA Assay from Thermo Fisher Scientific is designed to target mutations in non-small cell lung cancer samples derived from circulating cfDNA in blood.

Blood banking centrifuges, 9/16

September 2016—Thermo Scientific introduced two large-capacity blood banking centrifuge models. For regular- to medium-throughput blood processing needs, the Sorvall BP 8 and Heraeus Cryofuge 8 centrifuges provide 6 × 550 mL blood bag capacity and, using the same bucket system, are upgradeable to 8 × 550 mL bags.

Test predicts AKI risk in sepsis patients, 9/16

September 2016—Astute Medical said in a statement that a new ancillary analysis of two multicenter studies using the company’s NephroCheck Test demonstrates that urine insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 7 (IGFBP7) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases 2 (TIMP-2), the biomarkers detected and measured by the test, accurately predict acute kidney injury in septic patients with or without other organ failures.
