Hydrocodone assay receives 510(k) clearance, 12/15

December 2015—Thermo Scientific’s DRI Hydrocodone Assay received FDA 510(k) clearance; it also has the requisite sensitivities to meet the newly proposed Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration guidelines (using a 300 ng/mL cutoff). SAMHSA oversees the testing of federally regulated employees, and many organizations follow the guidelines set forth by this agency.

Assay for measuring dabigatran, 12/15

December 2015—Diagnostica Stago launched its next-generation ecarin-based chromogenic assay for dabigatran, STA-ECA II. Fully automated with barcoded loading on Stago’s high throughput analyzers, STA-ECA II enables laboratories to measure dabigatran (Pradaxa) in plasma samples and is insensitive to lupus anticoagulants and heparin along with coagulation factor and fibrinogen levels.

Genital swab claim cleared for HSV test, 11/15

November 2015—Quest Diagnostics announced that its Focus Diagnostics products business has received 510(k) clearance to add the genital swab claim to its Simplexa HSV 1 and 2 Direct molecular test on the 3M Integrated Cycler.

Urine-based prostate cancer test, 11/15

November 2015—MDxHealth announced the commercial launch of its noninvasive, urine-based test, SelectMDx for prostate cancer, in Europe via the company’s laboratory facilities in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

Cell culture chambers, 11/15

November 2015—Sarstedt introduced Lumox x-well cell culture chambers with a 50 µm ultrathin, gas-permeable film base that combines excellent imaging with superior cell growth. Compared with plastic or glass bases, the gas-permeable Lumox film provides more effective gas exchange and homogeneous cell growth.

Affymetrix, Luminex distribution agreement, 11/15

November 2015—Affymetrix and Luminex announced a distribution agreement under which eBioscience, a business unit of Affymetrix, will sell Luminex’s Magpix, Luminex 200, and Flexmap 3D multiplexed assay platforms in specified countries in the Americas, Asia, and Europe.
