Slide-mounted tissue dissection solution, 2/13:110

Horizon, Boehringer team on oncology research, 2/13:109

Meridian Bioscience has completed beta trials for two new Illumigene molecular amplification tests specifically designed to detect the DNA of Chlamydia trachoma-tis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, respectively, from swab and urine specimens.

LipoScience, Duke team to ID factors for cardiovascular risk, 2/13:108

LipoScience has entered into a research agreement with Duke University School of Medicine to identify cardiovascular risk factors to be used alone or in combination with other clinical measures to improve stratification and management of acute coronary syndrome. The agreement encompasses studies to be performed with Duke’s CathGen (CatheterizationGenetics) and other patient registries.

Cardiac troponin I test, 2/13:108

Abbott has received CE-marking for its Architect Stat High-Sensitive troponin I assay. The test measures very low levels of cardiac troponin, which allows physicians to evaluate, in two to four hours, whether patients are having a heart attack.

Quality assurance service programs

February 2013—Bio-Rad Laboratories has released three External Quality Assurance Service (EQAS) programs for clinical laboratories and near-patient/point-of-care settings worldwide. They are cardiac markers, ethanol/ammonia, and lipids.

Respiratory sample collection videos, 2/13:108

Copan Diagnostics has worked with infection-control and point-of-care providers to develop training videos and collection guides demonstrating proper technique for collecting respiratory specimens. Among the educational resources Copan has produced are a set of videos for the CDC and Joint Commission to be used in a Web-based course on influenza diagnosis and treatment in ambulatory settings.
