FDA clears seven-day platelet storage, wireless option, 10/15

Terumo BCT has received 510(k) clearance for a labeling change, extending the storage of platelets in plasma from five days to seven days, as well as offering wireless capability for the software applications used with Terumo BCT’s Trima Accel Automated Blood Collection System. This clearance adds to the flexibility and productivity of the Trima Accel system, a device that offers single-needle procedures for a more comfortable donation experience.

Qiagen, Biotype Diagnostics joint venture, 10/15

Qiagen and Biotype Diagnostics have entered into a partnership to establish Biotype Innovation GmbH. The new company will develop and commercialize molecular diagnostic workflows initially for personalized health care applications based on Qiagen’s proprietary ModaPlex platform, which enables customers to detect, characterize, and measure up to 100 parameters simultaneously.

CLSI released new and revised standards on point-of-care testing in relation to glucose measuring and monitoring. “Effects of Different Sample Types on Glucose Measurements, 1st Edition (POCT06-Ed1)” provides information to assist the clinical and point-of-care staff in result and measurement procedure comparisons of glucose tests and is intended for use by clinicians, point-of-care teams, pathologists, laboratory directors, and manufacturers of glucose testing devices.
