Process management guideline, 5/15

May 2015—The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute has published a new document, “Process Management (QMS18-Ed1).” This guideline describes four requirements for managing laboratory processes and provides suggestions for effectively meeting regulatory and accreditation requirements, optimizing efficient use of resources, and contributing to patient safety and positive outcomes.

Cervical cancer detection assay, 5/15

May 2015—Enzo Biochem announced the development of the FlowScript assay in detection of messenger RNA from HPV oncogenes E6 and E7. The FlowScript technology platform is a proprietary flow-cytometry-based molecular detection system for the multiplex analysis of cell function and identity; the HPV E6/E7 assay is the first product to use this novel platform. Analysis is performed on a small volume of a liquid cytology specimen and can be incorporated as a reflex test measure following abnormal Pap smear results.

Expanded cell-enrichment application line, 5/15

May 2015—WaveSense, a manufacturer of in vitro diagnostic cell targeting, enrichment, and isolation products for pathology, urology, and oncology, added a product to its line of cell enrichment applications delivered through its patented EpiSep medical product line.

Diabetic biomarker test, 5/15

May 2015—EKF Diagnostics has introduced the Stanbio Chemistry Glycated Serum Protein LiquiColor test, a diabetic biomarker test that provides a two- to three-week indicator of average blood glucose, closing the information gap between daily blood glucose testing and the two- to three-month HbA1c reading. GSP serves as an accurate intermediate marker of glycemia in instances where HbA1c may be of limited value, such as pregnancy, reduced RBC lifespan, and hemodialysis.

Methotrexate ELISA kit, 5/15

May 2015—The Methotrexate ELISA kit from Enzo Life Sciences enables the monitoring of methotrexate levels during treatment of cancer and rheumatoid arthritis. The assay is also appropriate for the detection of methotrexate contamination after its use as a selective agent for recombinant protein production in mammalian cell lines.

Urine collection systems, 5/15

May 2015—Sarstedt is offering two urine collection systems—the Urine Monovette and the V-Monovette. The Urine Monovette enables hygienic urine collection and testing without needles, adapters, or cups or transfers. All tubes are manufactured from impact-resistance, medical-grade plastics and feature secure screw caps for safe handling. After collection using a syringe technique, the plunger handle is removed to create a primary tube for transport, direct analysis, and centrifugation. A Luer-lock version is also available for needleless collection from Foley catheters.

Bio-Rad extends availability of vitamin D kit, 5/15

May 2015—Bio-Rad announced the launch of the BioPlex 2200 25-OH Vitamin D kit for use on the company’s BioPlex 2200 system in U.S. markets. The assay offers a fully automated method for the quantitative measurement of total 25-hydroxyvitamin D in human serum.

IQCP tool, 5/15

May 2015—Radiometer has announced the launch of a dedicated Individualized Quality Control Plan tool for hospitals using the ABL90 Flex blood gas analyzer. The IQCP tool provides a template for hospitals with ABL90 Flex analyzers to develop a customized quality control plan. Starting at the preanalytical phase, the tool next guides the laboratorian through the analytical and postanalytical processes, identifying key areas of focus to ensure the development of an IQCP program that is right for each institution.
