May 2014—Cancer test was used as part of a multidisciplinary approach to confirm prostate cancer diagnosis using a technique called transperineal mapping biopsy. The cancer lesions found using this method were not detected by five conventional biopsies.

Multilabel slide scanner, 5/14

May 2014—PerkinElmer launched the Lamina multilabel slide scanner at the USCAP 2014 Annual Meeting. The scanner is a high-throughput imaging system for research pathologists in a larger research facility to study protein expression and the relationships between disease markers in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections.

Siemens, NKF enter strategic alliance, 5/14

May 2014—Siemens Healthcare and the National Kidney Foundation entered into a strategic alliance to increase awareness of the importance of albumin-to-creatinine ratio testing in high-risk individuals, with the goal of improving diagnosis and identifying kidney disease early in its course. Siemens and NKF will also help put the new clinical recommendations into practice.

May 2014—Dako added the Jenner-Wright Giemsa stain to its Artisan Link portfolio of automated stains. The stain is designed to provide clear differentiation and detail of the hematopoietic cells in bone marrow tissue samples for the diagnosis of cancer, aplastic anemia, and myelofibrosis.

May 2014—The Multisizer 4e Coulter Counter from Beckman Coulter Life Sciences has a 10-µm aperture for obtaining accurate count, size, and mass distribution for particles and cells ranging from 0.2 to 1,600 µm. Digital pulse processing provides high-resolution analysis in up to 400 channels.
