July 2014—Leica Microsystems opened an Experience Lab in its Tokyo headquarters. The laboratory is dedicated to product demonstrations of Leica microscope systems and workshops. Additionally, it serves as a showroom for microscope users who wish to get to know the instruments and accessories, such as cameras, illumination, and software. Users can bring their own samples to observe with the systems and can take advantage of a sample preparation service for industrial samples to be observed and analyzed on site.
July 2014—BioView announced that the FDA cleared for marketing its automated scanning microscope and image analysis system, the Duet, to qualitatively detect rearrangements involving the ALK gene via fluorescence in situ hybridization in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded non-small cell lung cancer tissue specimens, probed with the Abbott Vysis ALK Break Apart FISH Probe Kit.
July 2014—Copan and MetaSystems signed a global and exclusive agreement for the integration of an automatic microscopy slide scanning system, provided by MetaSystems, with WASPLab. The partnership provides Copan customers a fully automated system for the acquisition of microscopy images of Gram slides (under the brand Metafer) integrated with the WASPLab environment.

The company’s Fiberlite F5-10×1000 LEX carbon fiber rotor spins up to 10 one-liter Nalgene centrifuge bottles in a single run. The system’s large capacity and design suits numerous applications, including bacterial and mammalian cell pelleting, pelleting of cell cultures from fermentation tanks, large microbial cultures, biologics and vaccine production, clarifying broths, and harvesting cell and tissue cultures.
July 2014—Combining a tough exterior with smart printing capabilities, Brady’s BMP21-LAB handheld printer is designed for labeling slides, straws, dishware, bottles, vials, and tubes. The printer’s drop, lock, and print technology enables users to insert the label cartridge and start printing, with no setup required. The vial label shortcut key automatically cuts labels according to vial and tube sizes. Once the label is printed and cut, the grabber feature prevents it from falling to the ground.

Xitogen, a flow cytometer developer based in Suzhou and Dalian, China, will provide Beckman Coulter Life Sciences with an operational base in the China market, and the facilities in Suzhou and Dalian will function as research and development and manufacturing centers.
