Study evaluates assay for dengue virus infection, 10/13

A new study, conducted by researchers at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii, and published in the Journal of Microbiology, evaluated the InBios DENV Detect IgM capture ELISA for qualitative detection of IgM antibodies to dengue virus recombinant antigens. Well-characterized clinical serum samples collected from Hawaii, Vietnam, Niue, Singapore, and American Samoa were tested with the InBios ELISA in comparison with an in-house DENV IgM antibody capture (MAC) ELISA. The agreement, sensitivity, and specificity of the InBios assay were 94, 92, and 94 percent, respectively.

Gram-negative blood culture assay to ID and treat sepsis, 10/13

AdvanDx, a provider of molecular diagnostic tests for identifying pathogens that cause critical infections in hospitalized patients, announced the commercial launch of Gram-Negative QuickFISH BC, the third FDA-cleared test in its QuickFISH blood culture pathogen identification platform.

Genetic test panels for inherited cancer, 10/13

GeneDx announced the launch of a comprehensive suite of genetic tests for inherited cancer, including a 26-gene panel for breast and ovarian cancer that includes BRCA1 and BRCA2 and next-generation sequencing-based multi-gene panels for colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and endometrial cancer.

NGS library prep workstation, 10/13

Next-generation sequencing technologies have become faster and more efficient while library preparation remains a bottleneck. Laboratories require high-throughput, high-quality, stable, clinically relevant, and reproducible sample preparations. Solutions to these problems must not only solve time constraints but do so without the human errors associated with manual methods.

Hereditary cancer panel, 10/13

Myriad Genetics’ myRisk Hereditary Cancer is a multi-gene diagnostic test that provides increased sensitivity by analyzing 25 genes associated with eight major cancers, including breast, colorectal, ovarian, endometrial, pancreatic, prostate, gastric, and melanoma.

Each test report will include a genetic test result, a clinical risk report, and a health care management tool based on professional society guidelines, providing clear and actionable information to improve patient care regardless of whether the patient receives a positive or negative test result.
