I look at See, Test & Treat and see an initiative that started with one pathologist’s idea of a way to help communities in need. The CAP Foundation took that program and built it into something with real staying power. I know it was a relief to both Dr. Herbek and Jean Herbek that this mission will carry on into generations to come. We can’t all accomplish what Dr. Herbek did, but as pathologists we always have the opportunity to look around and ask how we can help.

If you work in or near an underserved population that could use better access to quality care, I encourage you to consider hosting your own See, Test & Treat event. To learn more, check out the CAP Foundation website or contact Maya Ogden, executive director of the foundation, at mogden@cap.org.

Hosting an event is not an option for all of us. A great alternative is to donate to the foundation, which uses the money to support these events and to provide educational resources for junior pathologists so they can travel to meetings, making sure our pipeline for the next generation of pathologists remains strong. The foundation now has an international focus as well, with a global initiative to bring educational resources to pathologists around the world and help them provide cutting-edge care to the patients in their communities.

If you’re not familiar with the CAP Foundation, I strongly recommend taking a moment to learn more about it. It’s a wonderful way to support pathologists and the patients who need us most.

Dr. Volk welcomes communication from CAP members. Write to her at president@cap.org.
